Borealis Festival is an immersive, artistic experience. Each year we invite musicians and sound artists to contribute to our event through our DJ and Live Performance. Our goal is to showcase new artists who create fresh unique music that challenges, engages, and entertains. Our focus is on cutting edge bass, house, techno, live and experimental electronic music but there are no necessary rules - we ask that you put your best foot forward and consider our previous lineups before applying.
Borealis places a strong emphasis on creativity, integrity, performance style, and engagement with community. Priority will be given to performers who are creating, producing, or releasing original music, and who are a stylistic fit with the musical programming of the festival.
We curate a small yet focused set of artists every year. There will only be a few opportunities available. Please do not contact us about your application. You will receive a response from us by March, 2020 if we are interested. If you do not hear from us, please try again next year.

Borealis Festival creates unique opportunities for people to interact with music, art, nature and each other. Volunteering is an incredible way to dive deeper into the festival culture, expanding your skills and making new friends as you create the experience with us.
Please Note: Completed Volunteer Applications do not guarantee a position. Only Successful applicants will be contacted with a Deposit request and Volunteer contract which will outline their specific commitment.
14 - 21 Hours: Volunteer your time. Hours required will depend if you are volunteering during pre-show,post-show, or during the festival.
Equipment Trade: Volunteer your equipment or resources. If you are providing specialized equipment or vehicles to the festival
A $100 Volunteer deposit (+ $39 Service fee + applicable taxes) will be required for new volunteers. Returning volunteers may have their deposit waived. The Deposit is refundable upon completion of your volunteer contributions.
Please ensure you are available for the tasks described in your application. Successful applicants will be sent a deposit link and asked to confirm, as changes to availability cannot be accepted once your Deposit and your application have been processed.
The Deposit protects the festival if a volunteer cancels or does not show up to their shifts. If for some reason you need to cancel before Aug 5, deposits can be returned upon volunteer coordinator approval - you may be required to find a replacement volunteer who is available and qualified for the teams you are assigned. Alternatively, if there is a medical or work emergency, please provide a doctor’s note or letter from your employer to receive a refund of your Deposit. Any cancellations after Aug 5th, are non-transferable and Deposits will be non-refundable.
ART GRANT APPLICATIONS

Borealis Festival aims to be an immersive, artistic experience. Therefore we now invite artists to exhibit at our event through our new Art Grant program.
The art exhibit expands over the entire site creating a cohesive artistic experience for attendees. Our goal is to enhance our festival with compelling environments created with the support of the Art Grant funding. We support and showcase visual artists, from virtuosos to those just beginning their professional careers.
Please thoroughly read the application before submitting and make sure your art meets the criteria we’re looking for.
We’re seeking the following:
Three dimensional art that has strong evocative qualities
Designs that are interactive with the viewer
Installations that initiate profound conversation
Successful applicants must:
create unique and innovative concepts.
incorporate natural elements and/or repurposed materials.
include interesting lighting design.
build structurally sound designs, built to the AB code.
use weather resistant materials.
carry their own liability insurance for inherently risky or overhead structures
Art may be pre-existing or in the design phase when submitting your application.
Art Grant Applications run until Aug 1, 2020 (submissions will not be reviewed until May 1, 2020).

VERY IMPORTANT INFO:
No pop up tents, if you use a tent it must be disguised
No rental fencing
No tarps, unless disguised
Installations that do not match the description provided in the application or offer may have their grant revoked and be asked to remove the structure from the festival grounds.
DANCE & MOVEMENT APPLICATIONS

Borealis Festival is an immersive, artistic experience. We invite performing artists to contribute to our event through dance, acrobatics, movement, and theatre. Our goal is to showcase movement artists who create entertaining, engaging and diverse material through various platforms.
These are some of the performance styles we are looking for:
Individual dancers, to be paired with several musical artists with 30 minutes of stage time each
GROUP STAGE PERFORMANCES
Groups of 3 or more, with 5-20 minutes of stage time
Individuals, duos, or groups that are focused on aerial arts that are able to perform to their own music, or during another musical act (Lyra, Trapeze, Silks, Corde de Lisse)
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept applications for fire performances due to extreme weather related risks. This is non-negotiable despite any experience with fire safety and performance. Thank you for understanding.

Priority will be given to performers who are creating their own choreographies, utilize creative costuming and present a style of performance that works well within the musical programming of the festival.

Performance artists are required to provide their own costumes, performance equipment and music files if required. Solo artists may be asked to curate costumes to a specified theme.
YOGA & MOVEMENT WORKSHOP APPLICATIONS

Applications Are Now Closed
We're looking for passionate educators to teach yoga, meditation, movement and dance workshops at this year's event. Please note, we have limited space and time for workshops and we expect to receive a large volume of applications. Only successful applicants will be contacted.
Workshop presenters will receive one GA ticket, in return for conducting one or two classes. Some presenters will be asked to teach one class and assist with another movement class.
We're looking for the following:
Educators with training and experience relevant to their workshop topic
Accessible and inclusive workshops and classes that offer unique and innovative perspectives and techniques
Workshops and classes that fit into the ethos and aesthetic of Borealis Festival

ARTISAN RETAIL VENDOR APPLICATIONS

Borealis Festival is committed to creating an exciting and immersive experience for our attendees. This vision extends to our artisan vendors. We encourage you to step away from single booth pop-up vending tents and create something unique and inspiring.
We are looking for:
Unique, quality items that will sell at the Borealis Festival.
Creative and aesthetically attractive vending booths.

FOOD VENDOR APPLICATIONS
Thank you for your interest in applying to be a Borealis 2020 Food Vendor.
Applications Open July 1
Food is an important part of the Borealis Festival experience. Over 400 attendees, crew members and volunteers will be on site for several days. We are looking for vendors who offer tasty and nourishing things to eat and are willing to help us fulfill our mandate of minimizing our environmental impact. We encourage food vendors to locally source resources and come up with innovative ways to reduce waste on site.
